Very good thread. Nice summary of your time in several alliances which gives us outsiders a glimpse of the nature of the people in them. Glad you found a home in ACSN and LV - sorry it didn't work out with GS. I'm sure you will find a new home soon :)
BoB vs GS - Why we need the Goons

I don't like RnB - I prefer house myself, but the music industry is all the more richer for having them both.
I find it amusing that people debate the "love-hate" relationship the EvE community has with BoB but openly state how the Goons are just worthless asshats who are doing the game harm. Talk about duel standards!
EvE is interesting and entertaining precisely because we have such clever, motivated, organised alliances such as BoB, ACSN, LV and GS (yes, them too!) all at each other's throats.There is no "right" way to play this game - we all have personal preferences and our own ideas of our "ideal" type of corp/allaince. Goonswarm bring their own take on how to play to the game.
Just as the USA cherishes "freedom of speech" we EvE citizens should promote "freedom of play".Personally, I would never do many of the things I have heard that Goosn get up to - it's just not me.From his posts, I'd probably be happier flying with the OP than any GS, but I would openly defend the right of any Goon to play the game anyway they wanted to as long as they don't cheat - and it's up to CCP to police that, not us!

Regarding the "Threadnought" - I was pleased to find the OP's experience closely matched my own guesses.
I think most ppl agree it was a bad idea and I hope that's why "The Mitanni" stepped down. If it was, then full credit to him for taking responsibility for his mistake.
However it was a bad idea born out of frustration, not malicious intention. CCP is slowly learning (albeit the hard way) what sort of transparency they need to provide to keep their player base happy.
Luckily for us (and the Goons - even if they won't admit it), while they may be relatively inexperienced in this, CCP genuinely try to listen to the players - which is a lot more than can be said for other game companies.
However, our standards are high and at times CCP falls short. On such occasions a certain amount of forgiveness is in order but at the same time you do need ppl like GS who aren't afraid to speak up, whatever the consequences, to just put sh*t out there and let it get shot down or backed up.
It's all well and good saying you shouldn't post allegations without truth but sometimes you aren't in a position to uncover the evidence yourself (infact, it isn't even your responsibility to do so!) Personally, I think GS did a service to the community bringing these issues to our attention even if they scuffed the way they did it.
GS is dead, long live GS!

If GS does fall it wont be cos of BoB or anyone else. It will be 'cos they let it happen. They came to this game as noobs, made a name for themselves and carved out a home in 0.0 and a legacy which will last long after they are gone.
